TRIBUTE: It’s a testament to Rutherford Police Chief John R. Russo’s reputation and integrity that so many friends, loved ones and colleagues packed this year’s Bergen County Police Chiefs Association installation dinner Friday night at the Venetian in Garfield. A “young, vibrant, passionate and intelligent” police department doesn’t happen by chance, retired Bergen County prosecutor’s Detective Capt. Stephen Dembowski said while formally introducing Russo to more than 400 attendees in the main ballroom. Russo, who was sworn as the association’s 95th president, “raised the bar and improved…

: Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Fought Flames Trying To Save Their HQ
Three Palisades Interstate Parkway police officers who were pulling New Year’s Day duty came running when they smelled smoke in their chief’s unoccupied office. They broke down the locked door and turned extinguishers on the blaze. But the heat and smoke from the quickly-spreading fire forced them out of the stone building, built as a private residence in the Alpine section of Palisades Interstate Park nearly a century ago, Lt. Jock Watkins Jr. said. By that time, a dispatcher had summoned firefighters and rushed to the second floor to retrieve a bicyclist who’d stopped to use the bathroo…

After Year In Jail, 'Compulsive' Bergen Cyber-Stalker From Old Tappan Charged Again
A year behind bars apparently made little difference to a convicted “compulsive and repetitive” cyber-stalker from Old Tappan who went after his victim yet again after being released, said authorities who seized him once more on Wednesday. Daniel G. Pfeiffer, 29, spent 364 days in the Bergen County Jail after being convicted of posting fake nude photos and creating bogus social medial accounts of a woman he’d dated nearly seven years earlier. This came after three arrests for similar behavior over a two-year span. The unemployed salesman was released in late October. Bergen County Prosecu…

More than 40 police officers from seven Pascack Valley towns attended a special "micro-training" session in River Vale on how to handle domestic violence incidents.
