Neurobiologist Picked As New Provost At Pace University
Pace University President Marvin Krislov has announced that Vanya Quiñones, Ph.D., a neurobiologist and biopsychologist who serves as Associate Provost for Student Success and Retention at CUNY’s Hunter College, will assume the role of Provost of Pace, effective July 1. Quiñones brings to Pace decades of experience in scientific research, academic administration, program- and research-focused fundraising, and a long record of working to improve diversity in science and the arts. $22G Raised For Montvale Kids Mourning Mom
HILLSDALE, N.J. -- Support has flooded in for three Montvale children mourning the recent loss of their mother. More than $22,000 had been raised as of Thursday on a GoFundMe for Melanie Fraiman Siegel's children, Ilyssa, Hilary, and Jeremy. She died on Jan. 25 after a battle with cancer. Melanie received a B.S. degree from Douglass College, Rutgers University and a R.N. degree from Pace University. She then went on to complete her Masters Degree in education. Pleasantville Names Former Pace Faculty Member New Village Administrator
The Village of Pleasantville has found Patty Dwyer's replacement. Eric Morrissey was named village administrator Monday night, replacing Dwyer, who worked for the village for 30 years. Morrissey will start on Feb. 15, while Dwyer will stay on through March to help with the transition. Morrissey will be paid $130,000. Latimer Hopes Section 1 Basketball Tourney Returns To County Center
The 2018 Section 1 boys and girls high school basketball tournament will not be held at the Westchester County Center in White Plains this year, breaking with tradition. County Executive George Latimer said he hopes to change that for 2019. Latimer said he met with officials from Section 1 and agreed to host another meeting in March to discuss returning the tournament to the County Center. Firefighters Hold Memorial For Pleasantville Stabbing Victim
Twenty-two years ago, the body of a Pleasantville firefighter was found after a blizzard. Family members of the 50-year-old Tom Dorr were suspects interviewed by police, but no one was charged. Fellow volunteer firefighters, co-workers and friends of Dorr, who worked for the White Plains Water Department, plan their an annual vigil on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant park where Dorr was slain.
