Bergen County Chef Eliminated On 'Chopped'
Pressure and competition have played equally important roles in Bergen County native Gregory Stott's life. The former pro golfer-turned-Wall Street stock broker combined both elements over the summer as a contestant on Food Network cooking show "Chopped." Park Ridge Con Man Admits Cooking Up $300,000 Mortgage Scam With Upper Saddle River Son
A Park Ridge con man already facing state prison time admitted in federal court on Wednesday that he and his son defrauded mortgage lenders out of more than $300,000, using most of the money to buy high-end luxury vehicles. George Bussanich Sr., 60, cut a deal with the government through which he pleaded guilty to bank fraud conspiracy and tax evasion in exchange for consideration at his Sept. 25 sentencing in U.S. District Court in Newark. Acme Stores In Woodcliff Lake, Elmwood Park To Shutter
A pair of Bergen County Acme markets will shutter this fall, a company spokesperson said. The Woodcliff Lake (Chestnut Ridge Road) and Elmwood Park (Broadway) stores will shutter by Oct. 2, a company spokesperson told NJ.com. Two other stores in Weehawken and Scarsdale, N.Y. will also be closing around the same time, Acme spokeswoman Dana Ward told the media outlet. Acme closed its Park Ridge location in 2018, just three years after renewing the lease from a shuttered A&P. Its Bergenfield store also went out of business in 2017. No word yet on the stores' replacements.

UPDATE: An agitated weapons collector who barricaded himself in a Park Ridge basement with a loaded gun during a family dispute finally emerged peacefully nearly 2½ hours later, thanks to a local police sergeant, authorities said. 25 NJ Transit Passengers Transferred From Disabled Pascack Valley Line Train
A Rockland County-bound train experiencing mechanical problems delayed 25 passengers at the Park Ridge station Tuesday, NJ Transit officials said. Passengers on Pascack Valley Line train #1613 were transferred to the Montvale station after their 1:32 p.m. train to Spring Valley became disabled, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. A 38-year-old Nutley man was struck and killed early Monday by a commuter train in Bergen County. The man drove to the area of the Dunkin' Donuts, just west of the Park Ridge train station, where an NJ Transit spokesman said he was struck at 7:25 a.m. Service was suspended in both directions for four hours. The 1612 train left Spring Valley at 7:10 a.m. for Secaucus Junction and had 180 customers and a crew aboard, NJT's Nathan Rudy said. NJ Transit buses and private carriers picked up the passengers, he said. Service was resumed at 11:30 a.m.

Firefighters from several Pascack Valley companies rallied to the aid of their Westwood colleagues during a Friday morning kitchen fire at a local condo.
