First responders tried in vain to revive an out-of-state man who died soon after being shot at a street corner in a violence-plagued Paterson neighborhood. A Yonkers man was sleeping when he was struck in the arm by gunfire in a Paterson, New Jersey home before dawn Monday, July 26, authorities confirmed. An unlicensed driver involved in a high-speed DWI crash in Paterson that killed an 17-year-old passenger pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide rather than face trial, authorities said. Lawan A. Henry, 23, of Paterson will be eligible for parole in a little over 7½ years under a plea bargain reached with prosecutors. Prosecutor: Clifton Man Sexually Assaulted Child, 14
A Clifton man was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old child, authorities said Monday. Javier Beristain, 33, was arrested after the child “disclosed being sexually assaulted” by him at a residence in Clifton, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said. Detectives from Valdes’s Special Victims Unit interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses, the prosecutor said. Beristain is charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault and child endangerment. He remained free pending a hearing scheduled for this Wednesday in Paterson.

A 47-year-old Clifton man was charged with hitting a child, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announced.
