Four Displaced By Fire In Northeast Philadelphia: Authorities
Philadelphia firefighters responded to a burning home in the city's Frankford neighborhood early on Tuesday, April 2, officials told Daily Voice. It happened on the 4300 block of Griscom Street around 1:45 a.m., PFD said. Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the two-story home and took 30 minutes to place the flames under control, according to a spokesperson. Medics treated two people at the scene and took them to an area hospital, officials said. The blaze displaced four people in total. Philadelphia Fire Sends Five To Hospital, Officials Say
More than 75 Philadelphia firefighters responded to an early morning blaze in Strawberry Mansion on Tuesday, March 12, according to authorities. First responders were called to the 2800 block of Lehigh Avenue just after 3 a.m., a PFD spokesperson told Daily Voice. Five people were treated at the scene by EMS and then taken to area hospitals, the department said. Firefighters were on the scene for over an hour, they added. John Garrow, a longtime battalion chief with the Philadelphia Fire Department, died while on duty this week, officials say. Retired Deputy Philly Fire Commissioner Dies, 74
John J. Devlin, a longtime member and one-time deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Fire Department, died last Sunday, Jan. 14, his colleagues said. He was 74. Devlin, of the Fox Chase section of Northeast Philly, served in the department for 40 years before retiring in 2013, according to his obituary. A 19-year-old man was killed and an 18-year-old man hospitalized in a Philadelphia crash early Saturday, Dec. 23, police said. Kyle Prince Joselin was heading north in a 2009 black Chevrolet Cobalt on the 10000 block of Academy Road when he lost control around 12:55 a.m., city police said. Dozens of Philadelphia firefighters were called to the scene of a tanker truck fire in Northern Liberties on Monday afternoon, Nov. 6, officials told Daily Voice. It happened near the corner of 2nd and Callowhill streets around 1:30 p.m., a Fire Department spokesperson said. The blaze was contained to the cab of the truck and did not reach the tanker before roughly 60 PFD members put the fire down, officials said. An apparent generator explosion at a construction site in Manayunk left six people burned on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 4, Philadelphia fire officials told Daily Voice.
