Authorities in Somerset County are searching for clues after a woman was assaulted by two men she paid to give her a ride. The woman was at a Plainfield bar when she met two men, who agreed to drive her to Irvington around 1:30 a.m. on Jan. 26, North Plainfield Police Lt. Edward Sinker said. During the trip, the men physically assaulted the woman, forcing her out of the vehicle on the highway and fled the scene with her cell phone, police said. Newark HS Basketball Coach Attacked By JV Players After Livingston Game
The Shabazz High School's junior varsity basketball team coach was brutally beaten by his own players after an away game in Livingston Tuesday in Newark. Video footage published by RLS Media shows a person on the ground outside of the Newark high school being punched and kicked by at least three team members in a nearly 25-second attack. Livingston officials said Shabazz players were engaged in "some physical confrontation among themselves" during the game. A man who claims he acted in self-defense during a violent fight with his girlfriend in Westport has been charged, police say. Westport Police say they received a report from a woman who claimed that she had been involved in a physical altercation with her boyfriend on Saturday, Oct. 6 around 4:15 a.m. The woman stated that a verbal argument with Bartholomew (Buddy) Valiante at her home caused him to shove her, prompting her to defend herself, police say. Two City of Poughkeepsie police officers were injured after responding to numerous calls reporting a fight in progress and possible home invasion. The incident began around 8:55 p.m., on Friday, May 17, when 911 received numerous calls of a fight in the area of Thompson Street, said City of Poughkeepsie Capt. Richard Wilson.
