This story has been updated. A man was killed in a police-involved shooting overnight on Long Island. It happened around 10:20 p.m.on Thursday, Dec. 19 in Brentwood. Suffolk County Police officers were on patrol in a marked vehicle when they initiated a stop of a vehicle in the parking lot of the Brentwood Long Island Railroad Station. Authorities ID Man Shot During Wild Union Police Chase
The man who was shot after fleeing from police in Union Friday afternoon has been identified as a 32-year-old Linden resident, the Union County Prosecutor's Office said. Lester Krek was pulled over for a traffic violation on Rt. 22 in Union around 2:15 p.m. Krek took off during the stop, according to authorities. Shortly afterward, Union police found his smashed pickup a few miles west in Mountainside. A Warwick police officer has been cleared in the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding man who attacked him with a knife, Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler announced.
