An Elmont man is accused of assaulting police officers and resisting arrest during a routine patrol, Nassau County Police announced on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Hurguens Jasmin, 28, of South King Street, was recognized by officers walking along Dutch Broadway near Opal Street at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11. He had an active Nassau County arrest warrant, according to detectives.

Victor Ortiz, a Newark police sergeant, was arrested and charged on Thursday, Jan. 2 in connection with the death of Newark Traffic Control Officer Jairo Rodriguez last month, authorities said.
At 12:42 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12, Rodriguez was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic following an event at the Prudential Center, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda said.
