A 61-year-old man who cannot speak is missing after walking away from an Easton assisted living facility, police announced on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Authorities identified a man who was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train. The incident happened in Shirley, west of the Mastic-Shirley station, shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, as Daily Voice reported. A Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train struck and killed a pedestrian late Saturday night, Dec. 28 near the Mastic Shirley station, an MTA spokesperson confirmed. The incident happened at approximately 11:10 p.m. between the William Floyd Parkway crossing and the station. Both MTA and local police were dispatched to the scene.
