Five people were injured when two cars collided in a Hunterdon County intersection Saturday night, authorities said. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 31 and Sand Hill Road in Raritan Township just before 10 p.m., the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad said on Facebook. A raccoon in Hunterdon County has tested positive for the rabies virus, local health officials said Tuesday. The raccoon was found near Madison Avenue in Raritan Township, the Hunterdon County Health Department said. Hunterdon County native and former Frenchtown firefighter John Franks died Nov. 24 at the age of 39. Born in Raritan Township, Franks graduated from Delaware Valley Regional High School, his obituary says. He later attended the American Motorcycle Institute (AMI) in Daytona Beach, FL, where he specialized in Ducati motorcycle repair, his memorial says. Franks then worked at Michael Andretti Powersports in Phillipsburg and Flemington Yamaha before becoming an automotive tire technician at BJ’s Wholesale in Flemington. Hunterdon Central High School junior and varsity lacrosse goalie Alexea Karpinski died Nov. 21. She was 17. Born and raised in Raritan Township, Karpinski was known for her love of sports, particularly lacrosse. She played as goalie for the Hunterdon Central Red Devils as well as for the Triple Threat Elite Club Team, her obituary says. Karpinski had a goal of playing D1 lacrosse while pursuing an exercise science degree. She wanted to become a professional athletic trainer, her memorial says.
