Jackknifed Tractor-Trailer Closes Route 40 In South Jersey
Route 40 was closed for more than two hours Monday after a tractor-trailer jackknifed, authorities said. The crash occurred at milepost 7.7 on Route 1 near Jill Road in Pilesgrove Township, Salem County, just before noon, according to a New Jersey State Police spokesman. The roadway was shut down for the removal of the tractor-trailer and reopened at about 2 p.m., State Police said. No injuries were reported. Verizon responded to work on damage to utility wires.

Part of Route 1 in Central Jersey was closed due to a jackknifed tractor-trailer, authorities said. The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. Monday on Route 1 in South Brunswick Township, initial reports said. At least one southbound lane was shut down as the other lane was cleared, reports said. There's a new Chick-fil-A restaurant coming to South Jersey The latest NJ addition to the fast-food chain is located at 2960 Route 1 in Lawrenceville, Mercer County. The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday. There are 52 Chick-fil-A eateries in New Jersey and more than 2,600 nationwide.

First Responders Called In Separate Route 9 Woodbridge Crashes
Police, firefighters and EMS crews responded to two separate Route 9 crashes, authorities said. The first crash reportedly involved a pedestrian about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at Routes 1 and 9 southbound south of Randolph Avenue, according to initial reports. That victim was taken to Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick. A second crash was reported on Route 9 near Green Street about 9:30 a.m., reports said. A holdup that left a victim shot dead at a Route 1 couples motel in Woodbridge led to the murder conviction of a Bronx man who federal prosecutors said planned the robbery, supplied the gun and pocketed some of the proceeds. 5 Hospitalized In Route 1 Crash
Five people were hospitalized in a serious crash on Route 1 early Saturday morning, authorities said. A southbound car veered off the road just before Carnegie Center Drive and struck a telephone pole before re-entering the road -- where it was struck by an SUV around 3:40 a.m., NJ.com says citing West Windsor police. Four occupants of one car and a fifth from the other were rushed to a local hospital, according to Sgt. Frank Bal. No further information was released.

Fort Lee police believe a vehicle that left the scene may have been responsible for a Sunday afternoon crash that ejected a motorcyclist. The 44-year-old victim from Greenwood Lake was headed north on Route 1 when a gray-colored SUV apparently caused him to lose control of his 2004 Suzuki near the Dunkin Donuts shortly before 2:30 p.m., Capt. Female Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Truck In Elizabeth
A female pedestrian crossing the street was struck and killed by a truck getting off Route 1 Thursday night in Elizabeth. The woman was outside of the crosswalk when she was hit around 8 p.m. at Route 1 and North Avenue East, City Spokeswoman Kelly Martins said. EMS rendered first aid to the woman, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital, authoriteis said. "The truck driver remained at the scene, fully cooperated and turned over everything," Martins said. "No alcohol or drugs were involved, it seems to be a tragic accident." The woman had not been identified as of Friday morning.

Woodbridge Police Look For Second Car In Fatal Pedestrian Crash
Woodbridge police seek the public’s help locating a second car that struck a pedestrian crossing Route 1 on Monday. Joseph Cicero, 50, of the Avenel section of town later died of his critical injuries at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, authorities said. First responders were called to Route 1 at Franklin Corner Road in Lawrenceville about 4:30 p.m. Route 1 was closed in both directions.
