Driver Seriously Injured After Crash With Tractor-Trailer On I-84
The driver of a Mustang was seriously injured after crashing with a tractor-trailer on a stretch of I-84 and becoming trapped. The crash took place in Orange County around 10:15 p.m., Monday, May 24, near Route 208 and I-84 in Maybrook, said the Montgomery Fire Department. The department, which was working mutual aid with the Maybrook Fire District, and the Montgomery Ambulance Corps, was able to successfully extricate the driver, who was then airlifted to an area hospital. The driver was reportedly fleeing from police when the crash took place.

A driver escaped injury when his truck tipped Monday morning at the Glen Rock-Fair Lawn border just off Route 208. Police said a driver was under the influence when his car slammed head-on into another Friday morning just off Route 208 in Fair Lawn, authorities said. Witnesses told police that Vadym Yukhno, 58, of Fair Lawn passed several other cars on Maple Avenue coming off the highway ramp toward Glen Rock when his Prius struck a Chevy Malibu in the oncoming lane just shortly after 9 a.m. The driver of the Malibu, a 43-year-old New Haven, CT woman, was taken to The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with chest and wrist injuries, Sgt. Computer Parts Container Slams Into Bridge, Topples Onto Route 208
A Route 208 overpass was none the worse for wear after a container of mostly recycled computer and electronic parts smacked into it and toppled over Wednesday morning. A wrecker was towing the roll-off container, which hit the Maple Avenue bridge on the northbound highway in Fair Lawn around 10 a.m. The crash also pierced the fuel tank, creating a diesel spill attended to by Fair Lawn firefighters. Former NFL defensive end Rob Burnett was arrested and charged with DWI after crashing his truck a couple blocks from his Franklin Lakes home, authorities said. A tractor-trailer rolled off Route 287 and down an embankment before dawn Friday. It was another in a series of crashes that has plagued that stretch of highway for years. An out-of-control cargo van careened off Route 208 and slammed into a backyard storage shed in Wyckoff on Thursday after the driver said she was cut off. The 49-year-old driver from Elizabeth said she was headed south in her 2016 Nissan around noon when another vehicle cut her off, forcing her to “take evasive action to avoid a collision,” Lt. Hero Fair Lawn School Bus Driver Who Put Out Fire On Route 208 Dies Of Coronavirus
Gerry Genuino, a beloved custodian and bus driver in the Fair Lawn school district, died of coronavirus Tuesday evening, officials said. He was 58. Genuino began working for Fair Lawn schools in 2001 as a Warren Point Elementary School custodian. A longtime Fair Lawn resident, Genuino was "respected and well-liked by everyone," Superintendent Mr. Nick Norcia said.
