Fair Lawn, Paramus Police Nab Trio After Mall Theft, Chase, Crash
Police captured three suspects who bailed from their brand-new sedan after it crashed in Fair Lawn during a Friday evening chase that began with a theft at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus, authorities confirmed. The pursuit apparently began after a theft from the Apple store at the Garden State Plaza. The suspects fled west on Route 4 and ended up in Fair Lawn, where the Infiniti slammed into a utility pole at the corner of Berkshire Road and Fair Lawn Parkway, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said. Pileup Closes Eastbound Route 4 In River Edge
A multi-vehicle crash closed eastbound Route 4 in River Edge early Monday evening. Traffic quickly backed up through Paramus after the four-car crash shortly before 5:30 p.m. involving an older-model station wagon, a van, a sedan and a coupe. There was no immediate word on injuries. All traffic was diverted to the northbound Hackensack Avenue exit.

A 51-year-old Hackensack man was arrested after police said he spit on and threatened to kill a jitney bus passenger in a racially-tinged tirade aboard through Paramus. Victor E. Colon was arrested Wednesday night at his home, Paramus police said. He was charged with offenses including aggravated assault, bias intimidation and making terroristic threats. Accused Hackensack Mall Thieves With Anti-Theft Bags Caught After Chase, Crash In River Edge
A brief police pursuit ended Friday afternoon with a crash, a search and the arrests of two men in River Edge who authorities said used anti-theft devices to shoplift from Bloomingdale's at Hackensack's Shops at Riverside off Route 4. Jordan Gulley, 24, and 19-year-old Count Victor Cooks remained held in the Bergen County Jail on Saturday. Both were charged with shoplifting by using anti-theft devices and receiving stolen property. Cooks also was charged with resisting arrest after he had to be hunted down, authorities said. Englewood police made arrests in two stolen car chases that ended in crashes barely 24 hours apart. It was just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday when city police spotted a Range Rover and late-model Audi -- both of which had been reported stolen -- headed south on North Woodland Avenue, Deputy Police Chief Gregory Halstead said. A dog owner who on Sunday was undergoing surgery to fix her jaw injured in crash is desperate to find her dog who bolted from the scene early Saturday morning on Interstate 95 in Teaneck. Akela, a hound mix, has been spotted in busy areas close to Route 4 in Hackensack, Teaneck and Bogota since the 2 a.m. collision Saturday. The dog is frightened easily and should not be chased.
