A man suspected of beating and stabbing a woman in Bethlehem remained at large following a high-speed police chase on Route 78, authorities said. Christopher Alexander, 35, broke into a home on East Eighth Street in Bethlehem, punched a woman in the face and stabbed her around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, NJ.com reports citing court records. The victim had ended her relationship with Alexander earlier that day, the report says. Five men were charged and 12 issued summonses for illegal dumping in Newark since October, authorities announced Tuesday. “I am hopeful that any suspect found guilty of illegal dumping in Newark faces a sentence by the judicial system harsh enough to deter these crimes in the future,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Man Dies After Driving Into Parked Tractor Trailer On Route 78
A man died after driving into a parked tractor trailer on Route 78 early Sunday morning, authorities said. The unidentified driver struck the trailer on the westbound side of the highway in Clinton Township around 5 a.m., New Jersey State Police said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The two right lanes of the westbound side were closed for several hours.

State Police: Two Cars Collide With Tractor-Trailer Carrying Carbon Dioxide On Route 78
All lanes had reopened Thursday morning after a tractor-trailer carrying carbon dioxide collided with two other vehicles on Route 78 in Hunterdon County, state police said. The crash occurred around Exit 24 near County Highway 523 in Tewksbury just after 6:30 a.m., NJSP Sgt. Philip Curry told Daily Voice. The westbound lanes were temporarily closed while crews moved the vehicles to the shoulder of the road and had them towed, police said. No serious injuries were reported as a result of the crash, Curry said. The scene was cleared with westbound lanes reopened about an hour later.

A passenger hopped into the driver's seat of a pickup truck during a traffic stop and led New Jersey State Police on a wild chase before crashing and jumping into a backyard pool, authorities said. Pedestrian Struck On Route 78 Following 3-Car Crash
A man suffered minor leg injuries after being struck by a vehicle on Route 78 while getting out of his own car in a pileup in Bedminster, authorities said. The man was getting out of a Honda Accord on the eastbound side of the highway when he was struck around 11:45 p.m. near milepost 28.7, according to New Jersey State Police. Burglary charges from several towns continue to pile up against a Hackensack ex-con with a criminal history that stretches back 25 years.
