The checkpoint was conducted by Suffolk County Police on Route 112 at Hallock Avenue in Port Jefferson Station between around 11 p.m. Saturday, July 3, and 2:15 a.m. Sunday, July 4. A family who lives above the funeral home was awakened by its two dogs who were barking frantically. The family then found smoke and fire in the apartment and was able to escape without injury, the department said. Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Car In Front Of His Long Island Home A Long Island man suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in front of his house overnight, according to police. John P. Jones, age 55, was in the roadway in front of the home in Selden, located on Dare Road, when he was struck by a northbound 2016 Hyundai sedan at approximately 9:45 p.m. Saturday, March 20, Suffolk County Police said. Jones was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital. The driver of the Hyundai, Christa Henselder, age 79, of Selden, was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Patrick Coleman, age 28, of Selden, was last seen at his aunt’s residence, located on 688 South 7th St., in Lindenhurst on Thursday, Jan. 28 around 11 p.m., said the Suffolk County Police.
