A lottery ticket worth more than $1.9 million was sold at a Monmouth County supermarket, officials said. The $1,930,093 winner matched all five numbers in the Jersey Cash 5 drawing on Friday, July 5, the New Jersey Lottery said in a news release on Monday, July 8. The ticket was purchased at the ShopRite on Route 35 in Belmar. The winning numbers were: 09, 19, 21, 38 and 40. The XTRA number was: 05 and the Bullseye number was 40. After over 30 years in business, a popular ShopRite store in the region will close this summer. The 55,500-square-foot store, located in Ulster County in Ellenville, at 1 ShopRite Boulevard off Route 209, was opened in 1993 by Wakefern Food Corporation in New Jersey. A Howell Township mother who prosecutors said was stabbed to death by her son is being remembered as her family's "heart and soul." Loretta Parody, 61, died on Monday, June 3 and police arrested 25-year-old Robert Parody at the family's home on Porter Road just before 1:30 a.m. Investigators said Robert Parody entered his mother's bedroom and stabbed her in the chest while she was sleeping. ShopRite Cashier Pepper Sprayed: Newark PD
A cashier at ShopRite was pepper sprayed by a 17-year-old in Newark on Thursday May 23, authorities said. At 12:20 p.m., the cashier was pepper sprayed following an altercation with the 17-year-old at the ShopRite on Springfield Avenue, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The cashier was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, Fragé said. The juvenile was arrested and faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and harassment, Fragé said.
