The former co-owner and executive at a New York mortgage lender has been sentenced for an $8.9 million fraud scheme, federal authorities announced.
Long Island resident Edward E. Bohm, age 44, of Smithtown, formerly the president of Sales and part-owner of mortgage lender Vanguard Funding, LLC, based in Garden City, was sentenced on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the federal courthouse in Central Islip to two years in prison.
Bohm was also ordered to pay $3,488,615.42 in restitution and $1,500,000 in criminal forfeiture.

Police are investigating an incident during which a Long Island woman was allegedly confronted outside her home by two men who stole money and checks.
The incident took place in Smithtown around 9:40 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, as the woman stood in her driveway on Grandview Lane.
While standing in the driveway, two men, both wearing ski masks, approached the woman and displayed a gun, said the Suffolk County Police.

Suspect In String Of Business Burglaries Caught On Long Island Expressway
A suspect in a string of nine burglaries of businesses in Suffolk County was apprehended after a stop on the Long Island Expressway, police said.
Following a months-long investigation, the suspect was located just after 10:10 p.m. Friday, July 22 in Dix Hills on the westbound LIE at Commack Road, Suffolk County Police.
The man, Robert Blackmore, age 54, of Ronkonkoma, threw a rock at the glass, entered and stole cash from several businesses in Suffolk County since January, according to police.

Woman Accused Of Driving Impaired With 4-Year-Old Passenger, Crashing Into Vehicle In Commack
A 33-year-old woman was charged after police said she drove with a 4-year-old passenger while impaired and rear-ended another vehicle on Long Island.
The crash happened in Commack at about 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, on Harned Road near Cutchogue Lane, the Suffolk County Police Department reported.
Kristine Mazza, of Smithtown, was driving a 2005 Hyundai south on Harned Road when she rear-ended another vehicle, police said.
Officers determined that Mazza was under the influence of drugs, and located her daughter, who was unharmed, in the backseat of the vehicle, SCPD said.
