Winter has more snow in store for us, with a heavy storm expected to wallop the Northeast just as the weekend wraps up. A nor'easter expected to start Sunday could dump between 6 and 12 inches of snow on the region by Tuesday, the National Weather Service projects. The chances have increased for a potentially major snowstorm that will end the month of January and usher in February, bringing a half-foot or more of accumulation. A Good Samaritan in Rockland County came to the rescue of some kids who found themselves in a potentially dangerous situation. Following last week’s snowstorm, more than a foot of snow piled up on some sidewalks in Monsey, making it more difficult to travel by foot. The victim in a fatal, one-car crash has been identified by the family - He was a hard-working Pioneer Valley bartender and star athlete. The crash happened on Wednesday, Dec. 16, on Southampton Road in Holyoke. The victim was Samuel “Sammy” Garcia, Jr., 25, of Easthampton, according to his obituary. Garcia was a star athlete in high school and worked at popular bars and restaurants in the Pioneer Valley. A State Police trooper rescued a man whose car had been buried in the snow for 10 hours. The incident took place on Thursday, Dec. 17, when Sergeant Jason Cawley contacted Tioga County 911 to see if any emergency calls were pending due to the storm, said the New York State Police. Cawley was told they had received a number of 911 calls from a man who had run off the road and needed assistance, but law enforcement in the area had not located the driver. The two-alarm fire broke out on the top floor of the three-family home on Westervelt Avenue shortly after 12:30 p.m., officials said. CT State Police Preparing For Major Nor'easter Bringing Heavy Snowfall, Strong Winds
As one of the strongest snowstorms in years heads for the region, the Connecticut State Police is warning drivers to be prepared and stay off the roadways if possible.
