Box Cutter-Wielding Man Breaks Into Speonk Home, Threatens Resident, Police Say A suspect was arrested days after a home break-in on Long Island. The incident happened in Speonk, at around 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, according to Southampton Town Police. Investigators said a resident called 911 saying a man known to them had illegally entered their home and threatened them with a box cutter. By the time officers arrived, the suspect had fled. Nobody was injured in the ordeal. On Saturday, Oct. 12, police arrested 42-year-old Bernard Colletti on suspicion of burglary and menacing. Colletti was arraigned the following morning.

Swimmer Drowns At Long Island Beach A 54-year-old man died after being pulled from the water at a Long Island beach. Emergency crews in Southampton were called shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, June 24, for a drowning victim at Altenkirch County Park, located in the hamlet of Hampton Bays near Dune Road and Road H. Another beachgoer removed the man from the water and performed CPR, but he was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Southampton Town Police identified the man as Peter Dzakonski, of Hampton Bays. A second man at the beach was also hospitalized after reporting chest pain and difficulty breathing.

Fatal Crash: 48-Year-Old ID'd As Victim After Being Struck By Vehicle In Southampton A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle on a Long Island roadway. The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30 in Southampton. Southampton Town Police Officers and New York State Police responded to the scene after a 911 caller reported the incident. Officers performed CPR on the pedestrian who was transported by Southampton Ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.   The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.  The pedestrian involved in this crash has been identified as Julio Victor Teo-Gomez, age 48…

Long Island Man Sexually Abuses Child For Years, Police Say A 38-year-old Long Island man was arrested after an investigation found that he subjected a child to years of sexual abuse. Edwin Camey, of the hamlet of Calverton, was taken into custody Thursday, Oct. 19, according to Southampton Town Police. Investigators determined that Camey began sexually abusing the victim in October 2014, when the child was under the age of 11. The alleged abuse continued for more than four years at homes in both Calverton and Flanders before finally ending in April 2019.
