17-Year-Old Killed After Car Crashes Into Pole, Tree On Southern State Parkway
A Long Island teenager was killed in a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway.
It happened on Saturday, Jan. 25 at approximately 11:30 p.m., state police said.
Joseph Bertolino, 17, of East Meadow, was driving a 1999 Honda Accord eastbound on the parkway, just east of Babylon at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle, according to police.
The Accord then went onto the right shoulder, striking a light pole and a tree, said police.
Bertolino was pronounced dead at the scene.

ID Released For Woman Killed In Southern State Parkway Crash
A woman who was killed during a single-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island has been identified by New York State Police.
The crash took place around 5:47 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13 in Nassau County on the parkway eastbound just west of Exit 17, in the town of Hempstead, said New York State Police Trooper Daniel Ahlgrim.
Ashlee Tessono, 28, of North Baldwin, was the driver of a 2005 Toyota Scion involved in the crash.
