High-Speed Head-On, Wrong-Way Crash Kills CT Woman, State Police Say
Connecticut State Police is seeking witnesses and dashcam video footage in a wrong-way fatal crash that left an area woman dead.
The late afternoon crash, killed a New Haven County woman around 5:15 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 4, on I-691 in Hartford County in Southington, when she slammed into a tractor-trailer at a high-speed driving in the wrong direction, state police said.
According to state police, Sharon L. Knight, age 54, of Waterbury, was driving a 2004 Mercedes Benz west in the east lane when she struck the tractor-trailer head-on.

Good Samaritan Struck, Killed Assisting Others On I-84
State police are asking the public for help after a man, who was assisting people following a crash, was hit and killed in Connecticut.
Andy Azab, of Oakville, an enclave of Watertown in Litchfield County, was hit by a Nissan Altima while attempting to help at another crash scene on I-84 in Hartford County, in Southington.
State police said the accident happened around 6:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 6 near the Exit 28 on-ramp, when Azab, age 62, was standing in the travel portion of the highway.
Azab was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, state police said.

A man who is in custody for a shooting spree in Connecticut is alleged to be "directly related" to the shots fired at the State Capitol.
State Police Central District Major Crimes Squad, along with State Capitol Police, conducted an investigation into the bullet holes discovered in the State Capitol Building in Hartford on Tuesday, June 1, determined that the incident took place on Monday, May 30, and is directly related to shootings in the town of Southington on the same day, state police said.

Wrong-Way I-84 Driver Strikes Trooper, Police Say
A man under the influence driving the wrong way on Interstate 84 led police on a chase which ended when he intentionally struck a state trooper, according to authorities.
Michael Newman, age 35, was charged with assaulting a police officer, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and three other offenses.
He allegedly struck the trooper at around 2 a.m. Saturday, March 6 in Connecticut near Exit 32 in Southington after police had him boxed in.
No injuries were reported, Connecticut State Police said.

A Target employee has been charged with voyeurism with malice after police allege he installed a camera in the bathroom of the store.
Joy Recio, age 40, of Bristol, was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in Southington for a complaint filed on Jan. 28 after police officers were dispatched to the Target store, where store security reported an employee found a small motion activated camera in the store's employee bathroom oriented towards a toilet, Southington Police said.
