Firefighter Injured Battling Rockland House Fire
A Monsey home was destroyed by fire as firefighters worked in hot, humid conditions to battle the blaze. The fire started around 3 p.m., Tuesday, July 2, at the home on Mapleleaf Road, said the Ramapo Police Department. Multiple fire departments were called to the scene due to the difficult conditions including working in void spaces due to the construction of an addition to the home, officials said. Extinguished Fireworks Cause Heavy Fire To Break Out At Rockland House
An area home suffered heavy damage from a fire started by fireworks thrown into a garbage can. The fire started around 10:30 p.m. Thursday, July 4, at 116 Sutin Place in Chestnut Ridge, said the Ramapo Police Department. When police officers and firefighters arrived on the scene, they found the attic area and side of the home engulfed in flames. Workers at a Monsey business were treated for dizziness and other ailments after being exposed to a chemical smell that turned out not to be a hazardous material. Spring Valley police responded to the area of 6 Melnick Drive, in Monsey, around 12:40 p.m., on Wednesday, June 19, for a possible hazardous materials situation, said Spring Valley Officer Matthew Galli. A car caught fire in Ramapo and the driver was able to escape serious harm when a Mouse Trap-esque situation played out and a utility pole landed on the vehicle. First responders were dispatched to a Union Road residence on Monday, April 15, when there was a report of a vehicle fire with a utility pole on fire. Raging Fire Destroys Cottage At Russian Orthodox Convent In Nanuet
A fire has destroyed a cottage located on the property of the Russian Orthodox convent in Nanuet, according to Clarkstown Police. The blaze broke out around 6:18 a.m. Wednesday at the Novo-Diveevo convent located at 100 Smith Road, Clarkstown police Det. Peter Walker said. Officials were altered to the fire by a woman in the cottage who smelled smoke and called 911. No one was injured, Walker said. Fire departments on scene included the lead Spring Valley, and Nanuet, Hillcrest, and West Haverstraw. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Man Dies After Being Pulled From Pomona Fire
A man died early Wednesday after a fire ripped through his Pomona home. The fire was reported around 3:03 a.m. at 286 Quaker Road, according to Hillcrest Fire Company No. 1. When firefighters arrived on scene flames were spreading outside the back of the one-story house to the roof. Spring Valley Fire Chief Rescues Man Saving Kitten
Spring Valley Fire Chief Ray Canario thought he would go help save a kitten up a tree when a call came in, but instead, he ended up rescuing the man who was trying to save the kitten. "It was priceless," the chief said with a laugh. According to Canario, the man, who lives on Wolfe Drive, had used a 6-foot ladder to try and save a kitten in a tree but ended up climbing about 10 feet to reach the little fuzz ball.
