19: Supermarkets Amend Hours, Take Strong Measures To Keep Stores Clean
As residents make a rush on grocery and retail stores stocking up on mass amounts of supplies including toilet paper and hand sanitizer amid the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), supermarkets are adjusting their hours to restock and clean and making other changes. Two of the region's largest stores, Stop & Shop and Connecticut-based Big Y, have announced changes in their hours to allow time for employees to stock the shelves and clean all areas of the stores that are accessed by shoppers. Stew Leonard's is opening its first New Jersey location this week in Paramus. But first, Martha Stewart need to give her blessing. The Nutley native and lifestyle guru, 78, will have a live cow named after her at the new store Monday evening alongside local and store officials. The event is VIP only but a ribbon-cutting ceremony open to the public will be held Friday morning at 8 a.m. The store opens on Wednesday.

Stew Leonard's will soon be in Bergen County. The interactive supermarket will open on Sept. 18 at Paramus Park Mall, BoozyBurbs reports. The 80,000-square-foot food and wine store will create more than 350 new jobs in the region. Produce from dozens of local farms will be available for shoppers and include a "from scratch" bakery, the store's signature one-way aisle and interactive animatronic characters giving shows to entertain families shopping. Crescent Duck Farm in Aquebogue grows genuine Long Island Duck and is the last duck farm on Long Island. Its president, Doug Corwin, is the fifth generation in his family to run the farm. The business began in 1908 on land purchased by a family ancestor, Matthias Corwin, in 1640. The farm breeds, hatchers and grows about one million ducks each year on 140 acres. This Is Sears' Last Weekend Ever In Paramus Park Mall
PARAMUS, N.J. -- Saturday will be Sears' final day before shuttering at the Paramus Park Mall more than four decades after opening. There is a major sale on exercise equipment and home appliances, its website says. The bottom store will be replaced by a Stew Leonard's supermarket and the top a 12-screen movie theater. The Sears store opened in August 1974, five months after the mall did.
