Driver Charged After LI Expressway Stop Leads To Fentanyl, Heroin, Crack Possession Arrest
A fugitive driver wanted after speeding away from investigators on Long Island following a drug arrest has been apprehended, authorities announced.
In Suffolk County, deputies from the Sheriff’s Office were on patrol on the LIE in Yaphank when they stopped the vehicle at approximately 3:50 p.m. on Friday, March 25.
While deputies approached the vehicle, it sped away, according to the sheriff's office.
Edward Smith, age 20, of Yaphank, a passenger in the front seat took off on foot and was apprehended and faces charges for crack, fentanyl, and heroin possession.

A Long Island man was charged after authorities said he drove to a correctional facility while intoxicated and was found in possession of a "ghost gun."
Daniel Apolinario, age 24, of Bay Shore, entered the Riverhead Correctional Facility parking lot through the employee entrance at about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, and he tried to exit jail grounds the wrong way through the visiting entrance, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office said.
