Duo Charged With Attempted Murder For Incident Off Meadowbrook State Parkway Police are investigating an assault with an axe that occurred in a wooded area off the Meadowbrook State Parkway. It happened in the area of Sunrise Highway, at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28 in Freeport, according to state police. Two people, Oscar Romero-Hernandez, age 37, and Jose Otero, age 38, both of Freeport, were in a physical altercation where the victim was struck in the head with an axe, state police said. Detectives said that a 49-year-old woman was sitting in her SUV outside the mall at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 in Valley Stream when she was approached by two African-American men who opened the driver’s side door and stole her cell phone. One Driver Dead, Second Hospitalized In Route 27 Crash Between Box Truck, Tractor-Trailer A tractor-trailer and box truck collided on Sunrise Highway, leaving one driver dead and the second hospitalized on Long Island. New York State Police troopers responded at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 10, where there was a reported crash on Sunrise Highway (Route 27) near the exit 62 eastbound exit in Southampton. The closure occurred eastbound in Suffolk County at Exit 54 and was reported just before 5 p.m. Farther east, another stretch of Route 27 reopened between Stephen Hands Path and Baiting Hollow Road in Southampton after a closure due to a downed tree and wires.
