Man Punches Woman, 68, In Montclair, Tries To Grab Car Keys: Police
Police in Montclair are looking for a man who punched a woman in the face last week. The victim, a 68-year-old Bloomfield resident, was parked in a driveway of a Windemere Road home when a car pulled up and parked in front of the driveway. A man got out of the car, approached her and asked her if he was in Montclair. He also asked for directions out of town, police said. When the woman responded, the man punched her through her car's open window and tried to grab the keys out of her car's ignition. Video: Woman Escapes Injury After Flames Explode From Car In Area
Things got dangerous for a driver who received a shock when her car suddenly burst in flames in Orange County. The woman driving on Clove Road just off of Route 208 in South Blooming Grove told officials that she smelled smoke shortly after making the turn onto the roadway shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Her Toyota Camry then proceeded to stall out and flames burst through the hood of the car. The woman was able to escape the blaze unscathed, and firefighters were called to the scene. Officials are seeking the public’s assistance as they attempt to locate a vulnerable 76-year-old woman suffering from dementia who has been missing from the Hudson Valley for more than two months. Prosecutor: Fleeing Clifton Motorcyclist Killed After Steering Into Oncoming Traffic
A 20-year-old motorcyclist from Clifton who'd just been stopped by police roared off into oncoming traffic and was struck and killed by a sedan, authorities said. Police had pulled over Joshua Montan on Main Avenue before he sped off just after 4 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said. The bike then crashed head-on into a 2013 Toyota Camry driven by a 75-year-old Clifton woman, they said. A second teen has been charged in connection with the deaths of two women in a crash in Fairfield County in April.The two killed -- 18-year-old Shalymar Herrera of West Haven and 23-year-old Briana Torres-Carter of Bridgeport, who was pregnant --were passengers in a Mini Cooper that was being driven by Herrera's husband, Lawrence Carter, 19, of Bridgeport. A memorial basketball tournament is being held in Yonkers to benefit the Michael Nolan Scholarship Fund, founded in the name of the former Oakland Athletics prospect who was fatally shot in a drive-by in 2015. The Michael Nolan Basketball Tournament will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Lincoln High School on Kneeland Avenue in Yonkers.
