Firefighters Extricate Victim, Summons Issued Following Ridgewood Crash
A female passenger was hospitalized after Ridgewood firefighters extricated her from a minivan that collided with a Honda Civic sedan Sunday night. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and had to be towed following the crash at Franklin Avenue and North Walnut Street shortly before 9 o'clock. The minivan passenger was taken to the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with a neck injury. A Honda sedan also sustained severe damage in the Ridgewood crash.Boyd A. : Woman's Body Found In Leaf Pile Outside Ridgewood Home
A Ridgewood homeowner taking a trash can to the curb late Wednesday discovered the body of a woman in a large leaf pile. Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke, who was among the responders to the Union Street resident's 911 call at 11:07 p.m., said the 53-year-old village resident was "known to the police department" and that no foul play was suspected. Firefighters Make Quick Work Of Vacant House Fire
Washington Township firefighters made a quick stop Sunday morning to keep a garage blaze in a vacant home from spreading. There were no injuries in the Ridgewood Boulevard East fire, which broke out shortly before 8 a.m. and was doused within minutes, Township Fire Chief Kevin Zitko said. "Credit to my members for a quick response that enabled the fire to be contained to the garage," Zitko said. Tree Worker, 28, From Passaic County Killed In Oakland Mishap
A 28-year-old tree worker was killed in Oakland on Tuesday when he was struck in the head by a wood chipper, authorities said. Members of the Oakland First Aid Squad and a paramedic unit from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood joined police at the scene on Stony Point Road off Route 202 around 9:45 a.m., police Lt. Christian Eldridge said. A medical chopper was called for but then cancelled. The unconscious Pompton Lakes victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, Eldridge said. Oakland police were investigating along with OSHA, the lieutenant said.

Firefighters Extricate Victim In Fair Lawn Rollover
Fair Lawn firefighters extricated a woman from a minivan that rolled onto its side at the Hawthorne border early Wednesday evening. Members of Fair Lawn Heavy Rescue got the victim out through the rear hatch of the Honda Odyssey after it rolled on Lincoln Avenue near Harristown Road shortly before 5:30 p.m. A Hawthorne EMS unit took her to the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening. Firefighters Extricate Driver With Severe Head Injury In Crash Off Route 208
A driver suffered traumatic head injuries and had to be extricated by Franklin Lakes firefighters after she ran a stop sign and her car was hit by a truck, authorities said. The 27-year-old Paterson driver had exited northbound Route 208 to Summit Avenue shortly before 7:30 a.m., Police Sgt. Denny G. Knubel said. A 71-year-old Rockland man trying to help a Mahwah homeowner remove a tree branch from his roof following Tuesday’s storm lost his balance and fell nearly 20 feet off a ladder, authorities said. Construction Worker Struck By Backhoe In Midland Park
A construction worker was hospitalized after being struck Wednesday afternoon by a backhoe in Midland Park. The Kemsco Construction and Equipment Company (Newark) worker was injured shortly before 4:30 p.m. behind the Midland Park Shopping Center on Godwin Avenue. Members of the Midland Park Ambulance Corps tended to the worker and took him to the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood. There was no immediate word on the extent of the injury. OSHA was notified.
