An accused serial arsonist on Long Island has been handed over to ICE because his charges aren’t bail eligible, authorities said Tuesday, May 12.
Elder Lopez Avalos, 27, was cuffed Sunday, May 10 in connection with multiple vehicle fires on Long Island in the past year, police said.
But the six arson counts Lopez Avalos faces were not bail eligible, so Nassau County authorities coordinated with ICE to ensure Lopez Avalos remains behind bars, WABC reported Tuesday.

Cars Engulfed In Flames In Freeport Parking Lot, Arson Suspect Arrested: Police
A Long Island man set fire to several cars in a parking lot early Sunday, May 10, then was also tied to three prior arson incidents after his arrest, police said.
Elder Lopez Avalos, 27, was detained shortly after the cars were found on fire at Municipal Parking Field 1 near 32 Smith Street in Freeport, the Nassau County Police Department said.
Cops responded around 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a call about multiple vehicles on fire in the lot, authorities said. They observed “several vehicles engulfed in flames.”

Oradell Driver, 61, Killed In Fiery Route 80 Crash, Njsp Says
A 61-year-old driver was killed in a fiery crash Friday, Jan. 9 on Route 80, authorities said.
The Oradell man was heading east in a Chevrolet SUV when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, struck multiple trees, and became fully engulfed in flames near milepost 42 in Parsippany at approximately 11:35 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.
The driver, whose name was not released as of press time, died as a result of the crash.
Off-Duty Trenton Cop Timothy Long Killed In Fiery Crash On Route 295 (Update)
An off-duty Trenton police officer was identified as the victim killed in a fiery crash early Sunday morning, June 22, on a state highway, officials confirmed.
Timothy Long, 50, was driving a Honda SUV northbound on I-295 near milepost 45.8 in Westampton Township around 5:58 a.m. when he lost control, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.
The vehicle went off the road, struck a traffic sign and a tree, then caught fire, according to Marchan. Long died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
