Fire Ravages Passaic Multi-Family Home, Displaces 18
VIDEO: Eight families were displaced by an intense fire that destroyed a Passaic multi-family home Friday night. No injuries were reported. Flames blew through the roof, part of which collapsed less than a half-hour after the four-alarm blaze broke out on the second floor of the wood-frame building at Hope and Highland avenues around 8 p.m. "Thank God everyone is out, safe and accounted for," Mayor Hector Carlos Lora said. Never one to be confined to a desk, Wallington Police Chief Carmello Imbruglia once again assisted his officers in capturing a wanted offender. The alert went out after ex-con Adam Jaworski of Garfield snatched two bottles of Johnnie Walker black from a local liquor store and fled on a bicycle during Monday’s snowstorm, Capt. Shawn Kudlacik said. Four Cats, Dog Rescued, Other Perish In Garfield House Fire
Four cats and a dog were rescued while others perished in a two-family house fire Sunday afternoon in Garfield. No other injuries were reported in the two-alarm fire, which displaced six residents from the two apartments, one of which apparently housed rescued pets, responders said. The fire broke out on the second floor of the 2½-story Pacific Avenue home around 1 p.m. It was knocked down within 20 or minutes and declared under control a little over an hour later. Prosecutor: Garfield School Bus Aide Contacted Juvenile Sex Assault Victim For Jailed Attacker
A Garfield school bus aide and a jailed Wallington man awaiting trial on charges of sexually assaulting a pre-teen were charged with contacting the victim. Floridaliz DeJesus, 56, was charged with contempt of a court order after she reached out to the victim on behalf of Pedro Perez, 31, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Friday. Detectives from Musella’s Special Victims Unit arrested Perez a year ago Saturday (Jan. 23, 2020) after city police received a tip and alerted them. Rutherford Police Nab Pair Swiping Power Tools
Rutherford police nabbed two men who’d been going around stealing power tools from hardware stores, authorities said. Detectives were investigating a New Year’s Eve theft of $1,300 worth of tools from Brothers Hardware on Orient Way when the pair returned on Tuesday, Capt. Sean Farrell said. An employee recognized them and called police, noting that one of the men left the store when he was approached and got into an SUV spotted during the previous theft, Farrell said. The jackpot for next week's Mega Millions drawing has climbed to $850 million after there were no grand prize winners in the drawing held Friday night, Jan. 15. Eight $1 million second prizes were sold -- including one in New York, on Long Island, at Hick's Piccolo Gourmet Deli on Levittown Parkway in Hicksville. Commercial Blaze Doused In Wallington
UPDATE: Firefighters doused a late-night commercial blaze in Wallington. The smoky, two-alarm fire broke out at a scaffolding company on Midland Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday. It was declared under control within a half hour. Flames Blow Through Windows Of Garfield Multi-Family Home
Flames shot out the second-floor windows and into the eaves of a Garfield multi-family home on Sunday. Firefighters needed a little over 20 minutes to knock down the bulk of the Harrison Avenue blaze after it broke out around 2:15 p.m. The two-alarm fire displaced a couple of families whose members all got out OK, responders said. EMS treated a firefighter for a minor injury at the scene.
