A 72-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car down the road from an elementary school in Dutchess County, police said.
The crash happened around 8:49 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the intersection of Schnabl Court and Myers Corner Road in Wappinger, just down the street from Myers Corners Elementary School, according to New York State Police.

A Hudson Valley woman was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison for stealing thousands from a man she was supposed to be a caregiver for.
Dutchess County resident Sabrina Aboshanab, age 33, of Wappingers Falls, was sentenced on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and ordered to pay $164,332.26 in restitution, said Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi.

Several people face charges after driving drunk in the Hudson Valley, including a woman who struck a sheriff deputy's vehicle, authorities said.
