Woman Dies After Slipping On Icy Slope At Popular Hiking Spot In Area
A 71-year-old woman slipped on an icy slope and fell to her death while hiking.
Margaret A. Fitzgerald, of Wappingers Falls, was killed around 10:50 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 21, while hiking on the Mohonk Preserve Table Rocks trail, said Ulster County Sheriff's Lt. Abram Markiewicz.
According to Markiewicz, Fitzgerald had been hiking with a group about a mile-and-a-half from the trailhead when she slipped on an icy slope and fell 50-feet down a narrow crevice.
Forest rangers responded and rappelled down to reach Fitzgerald, however, she was dead from her injuries, Markiewicz said.

25 Charged In Impaired Driving Crackdown In Area
During a Halloween crackdown on impaired drivers, law enforcement agencies in Dutchess County arrested more than two dozen drivers for alleged DWI.
Between Thursday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 3, local, county and state police agencies teamed to increase DWI checkpoints and saturation patrols throughout Dutchess.
In total, 26 arrests were made, 25 of which were for impaired driving. The crackdown was the first of eight planned during the holiday season.

Man Busted For DWI Had BAC More Than Twice Legal Limit, Police Say
A man from Wappingers Falls has been charged with DWI after police say he was driving with a blood-alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.
New York State Police say they stopped a motorist on I-787 in the city of Albany for a violation on Sunday, Aug. 11 around 11:15 p.m.
The driver, identified as Chandler Meekins, 56, of Wappingers Falls, was found to be intoxicated, police say.
Meekins was arrested, transported and processed at SP Albany, where police say his BAC was tested at .18.
