Mary Brown has lived a century — and she still starts each morning with puzzles, paints watercolor birthday cards for friends, and does her own taxes. The 100-year-old Philadelphia woman says her longevity isn’t complicated:
“I’m not a saint. I believe in prayer, in staying active, and in living one day at a time.”
A Legacy Of Longevity
Born on March 7, 1925, in Union, South Carolina, Brown is the daughter of Jeanette Garnett, who lived to 106. “I’m a survivor,” she told Daily Voice in an exclusive interview. “My mother lived to 106, so I figure I have some good years left.”

A retired US Navy admiral who once commanded operations across Europe, Russia, and Africa is heading to prison in connection with a federal bribery case.
Admiral Robert Burke, 62, of Coconut Creek, FL, was convicted on Monday, May 19, in Washington, DC, after a five-day trial, the US Attorney’s Office said.
On Tuesday, Sept. 16, US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced that Burke has been sentenced to 72 months in prison for accepting future employment at a government vendor in exchange for awarding that company a government contract.

The Maryland man who killed his girlfriend's husband in their DC apartment will spend nearly two decades in federal prison, authorities announced.
Keyon Slaughter, 28, of Waldorf, admitted to second-degree murder while armed in the 2022 killing of Dana Bailey Jr., who was shot once in the chest after discovering an affair between his wife and Slaughter, the US Attorney’s Office said.
