A 13-year-old swimmer drowned off a Jersey Shore beach Friday evening, Aug. 15, despite rescue efforts, police said.
At approximately 6:36 p.m., the Belmar Police Department received several 911 calls reporting a swimmer in distress off the 8th Avenue beach, police said. When officers arrived, it was relayed to dispatch that one person was out of the water, but another juvenile swimmer was missing, according to police.

Tributes are pouring in for a young woman who died following a jet ski crash on Great Sacandaga Lake in Fulton County.
Grace Clark, 21, was killed when the jet ski she was operating collided with a pontoon boat just north of the Broadalbin Boat Launch on Monday evening, June 23, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
Clark’s passenger, a 29-year-old man from Schoharie County, survived the impact and remains hospitalized at Albany Medical Center. Nobody on the pontoon boat was injured.

Alpha Kayaker, 35, Found Floating In Quarry Dies
A 35-year-old man died after being pulled from the water near a privately-owned quarry over the weekend in New Jersey, authorities said.
Troopers responded to the Alpha Quarry at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Nov. 24, following a report of a kayaker in distress.
Local police and fire departments located the victim, identified as Justin Lusk, of Alpha, floating in the water, Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said. Lusk was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident remains under active investigation, and no additional details have been released.

Two people were rescued after their large sailboat ran aground in Ocean City, officials said.
Emergency crews responded to the beach near 22nd Street at around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Ocean City Firefighters Association said in a Facebook post.
