School Bus Drops Off Boy, 5, A Mile From Home In Weehawken: Report
School officials said they would investigate after an apparent mix-up resulted in a 5-year-old boy boarding a school bus in Weehawken instead of staying behind for the after-school program he was supposed to be attending. The boy’s parents told News 4 New York that their son was told to get on the bus from Daniel Webster Elementary School at the end of the regular school day instead of remaining for the program, which provides supervision until 6 p.m. The bus then dropped the boy off more than a mile from home. Stray Cat Strut: Frightened Feline Fetched From Lincoln Tunnel
A frightened feline was rescued from the Lincoln Tunnel early Wednesday after being stranded on – what else? – the catwalk. Maeghan Grant, a field supervisor in the tunnel's Operations Unit, traveled nearly the length of the tunnel’s center tube with trainee Christopher Lizotte following a motorist’s call before finding the cold kitten about 400 feet from the Manhattan exit, authority spokeswoman Lenis Rodrigues said. Clifton Woman, 35, ID'd As Victim Fatally Struck By Light Rail Train
The person killed when she was struck by a light rail train in Weehawken Monday night is a 35-year-old Clifton woman, NJ Transit said. Saskia Guerrero was struck by the Hudson-Bergen line train around 11 p.m. near Port Imperial Boulevard. The Hoboken train had about 70 people aboard. Family have started a GoFundMe campaign on her behalf to help with expenses. The incident remains under investigation.

UPDATE, Aug. 21: NJ Transit has identified the victim fatally struck Monday night in Weehawken. Click here for more. Original story: A pedestrian died Monday night when she was hit by a Hudson Bergen Light Rail train in Weehawken, NJ Transit said. The woman was hit around 11 p.m. near Port Imperial Boulevard. No one aboard the Hoboken-bound train was injured. The identity of the woman was not immediately available Tuesday morning. The incident is under investigation, NJ Transit said. Acme Stores In Woodcliff Lake, Elmwood Park To Shutter
A pair of Bergen County Acme markets will shutter this fall, a company spokesperson said. The Woodcliff Lake (Chestnut Ridge Road) and Elmwood Park (Broadway) stores will shutter by Oct. 2, a company spokesperson told NJ.com. Two other stores in Weehawken and Scarsdale, N.Y. will also be closing around the same time, Acme spokeswoman Dana Ward told the media outlet. Acme closed its Park Ridge location in 2018, just three years after renewing the lease from a shuttered A&P. Its Bergenfield store also went out of business in 2017. No word yet on the stores' replacements.

Whole Foods has officially opened its 20th New Jersey location, at The Shops at Lincoln Harbor in Weehawken. Driver Critical After Garbage Truck Plummets Off Overpass
A Union City DPW garbage truck plummeted off an overpass onto westbound Route 495 in Weehawken after the driver suffered a medical emergency Wednesday afternoon, responders told Daily Voice. The driver was taken to Jersey City Medical Center with critical injuries, they said. A passenger in the truck sustained a broken femur, police at the scene told Daily Voice. A 46-year-old man who robbed employees at gunpoint at hotels in Airmont and Nanuet was sentenced Tuesday to 21 years in federal prison. Tremone Burnett, 46, of Orange, New Jersey, must serve just about all of the term: There's no parole in the federal prison system. Young members of the Englewood Soccer Club were hailed by the local mayor and council Tuesday night for their 2018 championship.
