Erratic Driver Nabbed For Alleged DWI In Stony Point A 57-year-old man was nabbed for DWI after police received complaints of an erratic driver.  Tomas Santiago, of West Haverstraw, was arrested around 1:25 p.m., April 12, and charged with DWI and a breath test violation after officers responded to complaints of a vehicle driving erratically at Shoprite in Stony Point, said Stony Point Lt. Daniel Hylas.  The officer located Santiago's vehicle traveling westbound on Holt Drive. Motorcyclist Killed After Route 9W Crash With SUV In Rockland A motorcycle rider was killed after being hit by an SUV on Route 9W, said the Haverstraw Police. The crash took place around 741 p.m., Monday, April 8, in the area of 34 North Route 9W in the Village of West Haverstraw, said Haverstraw Police Capt. Martin Lund. According to Lund, the crash occurred when the motorcycle driver, Jolexis Jaramillo, 27, of New York City, who was traveling south on Route 9W, was hit by an SUV pulling onto Route 9W to travel northbound. The fire at 2 Soluri Lane started around 10:29 a.m., Friday, March 8, said the Stony Point Police Department. Smoke and fire are visible from the structure, officials said. Part of the structure is reported to have collapsed.  A two-story house is on fire at Tomkins Cove.Google Maps Stony Point and West Haverstraw fire departments are on the scene.  All residents and pets reportedly evacuated safely. New City Man Nabbed For DWI Following Traffic Stop A 36-year-old Rockland County man was nabbed for allegedly driving under the influence following a traffic stop. Julio Guaman-Dutan of New City was arrested around 4:14 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 by Rockland County Sheriff's deputies following a stop on Route 9W in West Haverstraw, the department said. Guaman-Dutan was stopped for violating several traffic laws, during the stop deputies found him to be intoxicated and was arrested, the Sheriff's Department said. He was charged with DWI and released on a summons to appear in court on Dec. 11.

West Haverstraw Bridge Will Be Closed During Rail Line Work A busy Rockland bridge will be closed for several months as contracting crews get set for a lengthy reconstruction project in the area. An alert was issued on Monday to Rockland County residents warning that beginning on Monday, April 2, the Samsondale Avenue Bridge in West Haverstraw over the CSX rail lines in West Haverstraw will be closed to all traffic for the bridge reconstruction project. Officials said that the project is expected to last through Dec. 2, when it is expected to be reopened to traffic. While the bridge is closed, motorists have been advised to seek alternate routes.
