Two men who attempted to scam a Long Island woman out of thousands were intercepted by police thanks to the potential victim’s quick thinking, authorities said.
On Wednesday, May 3 at about 4:15 p.m., a Rockville Centre woman, age 69, received a call from someone claiming to be her grandson, according to the Nassau County police.
Another person, who introduced himself as “Michael Waller,” told the woman he was her grandson’s attorney, and that he needed $17,000 cash in order to bail her grandson out.

At least seven people were involved in a Long Island disturbance that ended with three arrested, police said.
The incident occurred late on the night of Wednesday, April 12 in Inwood, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Police say the disturbance started when 21-year-old Ashanti Eskarge, of Westbury, punched a 19-year-old girl in the mouth, lacerating her lower lip.
After that punch, three additional women (ages 37, 19, and 16) and 19-year-old Destiny Rodriquez began to argue.

Nine Long Island pals have claimed their lottery winnings, lottery officials announced.
The group of friends, all from Westbury, split their respective shares of a $1 million Powerball second prize on Friday, April 14, the New York Lottery reported.
The winning numbers for the drawing, which occurred on Friday, January 13, were 30-43-45-46-61 and Powerball 14.
Each friend took their payment as a single lump sum after required withholdings, according to lottery officials.

Nearly a year after fleeing the state, a Long Island man has been extradited and charged in a 61-count indictment for selling illegal firearms, authorities said.
Westbury resident Gerald Pierre, age 40, was arraigned in Nassau County Court on Friday, March 31, for 61 counts relating to owning and selling illegal firearms.

Pistol Loaded With 21 Rounds Found During Traffic Stop On Long Island, Police Say
A traffic stop on Long Island turned up a pistol loaded with nearly two dozen rounds of ammunition, authorities said.
Nassau County Police stopped Derrick Seidler, age 34, of Greensboro, North Carolina, at around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, as he drove through Westbury. Officers allege that he changed lanes without signaling on Corporate Drive.
During their conversation, Seidler began acting suspiciously, according to police, and officers ordered him and a 38-year-old female passenger out of the vehicle. Inside, they allegedly found a 9mm pistol loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition.
