Crash Involving School Bus Hospitalizes Three In Hampshire County
Three people were hospitalized after a car crash in Western Massachusetts involving a school van. The crash took place Monday, Feb. 14, in Hampshire County in South Hadley, reported 22News WWLP in Springfield. South Hadley Police told 22News a school van was made a left turn at the intersection of Newton and Lyman Street in front of another vehicle causing the crash. Springfield Man Sentenced For Money Laundering, Trafficking Cocaine
A 54-year-old man was sentenced for conspiring to traffic cocaine from California to Western Massachusetts and for money laundering. Miguel Betancourt, of Springfield, in Hampden County was sentenced on Tuesday, Feb. 8, to 42 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts. Man Indicted For Hate Crime Offenses Relating To Arson Of Church In Springfield
A New England man has been indicted for hate crimes in connection to a fire that destroyed a predominantly Black church in Western Massachusetts. Dushko Vulchev, age 45, of Houlton, Maine, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Thursday, Feb. 10 on four counts of damage to religious property involving fire and one count of use of fire to commit a federal felony for a fire in Springfield at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Presbyterian Church in Hampden County. One Hospitalized After House Fire Breaks Out In Springfield
One person was hospitalized after a house fire broke out in Western Massachusetts. The fire started in Springfield on Tuesday morning, Feb. 8 at 247 Trafton Road. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the fire, according to Springfield Fire and Emergency Services. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is working to determine what started the fire, which is believed to have begun in the basement, the department said.

Hit-Run Crash Under Investigation In Chicopee
One person was injured during a hit-and-run crash in Western Massachusetts. The incident took place around 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, on Exchange Street in Chicopee, according to 22 News. The news channel reported a vehicle hit a parked car and then left the area. Police told the news channel the vehicle, with the driver and passenger inside, were caught a short distance away. One of the suspects was taken to the hospital with injuries but the injuries are said to be minor. The crash is under investigation. No word on any arrests. A bomb threat led to police locking down Smith College in Western Massachusetts, which issued a shelter-in-place order to start the day. Shortly before 6:15 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28 in Hampshire County, Smith College in Northampton announced that the threat had been made against Burton Hall, which sits in the heart of the campus. A 28-year-old Western Massachusetts man has been charged in a single-vehicle crash that killed a passenger after police said he drove under the influence.
