Four suspended police officers from Central Jersey bilked their town for no-show "extra duty" assignments, authorities said.
The Edison Police officers were charged with racketeering, bribery, theft, money laundering and witness tampering, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Chief Thomas Bryan of the Edison Police Department said on Friday, Oct. 14.
They did not say how much taxpayer money was stolen by the former officers.

An MS-13 gang leader from the region has been sentenced to life in prison for taking part in at least three murders, racketeering, and possession of drugs.
Junior Noe Alvarado-Requeno, aka “Insolente” and “Trankilo,” age 24, of Landover, Maryland was sentenced on Monday, April 25, said Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly.
Alvardo-Requeno was found guilty in Maryland of the charges during a four-week trial last year.

A Fairfield County gang member has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison for racketeering and witness tampering.
Shakale Brantley, also known as “Charlie Wilson,” “Kellz,” and “Man Man,” age 22, of Bridgeport, was sentenced Wednesday, Jan. 26, said Leonard Boyle, US Attorney for the District of Connecticut.
According to court documents and statements made in court, the FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, and Bridgeport Police have been investigating multiple Bridgeport-based gangs whose members are involved in narcotics trafficking, murder, and other acts of violence.

A North Jersey man accused of sexually assaulting and robbing a 33-year-old woman surrendered to authorities in Hudson County on Wednesday, authorities said.
Michael Vivar, 23, of North Bergen, was arrested on charges of aggravated sexual assault, robbery, and witness tampering, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
The woman told North Bergen police on Nov. 3, 2021, that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown man she had met earlier in the day, authorities said. He also apparently stole money from her wallet.
