: Woodcliff Lake Agrees To Allow Orthodox Worship Center And Pay $1.5 Million
An Orthodox Jewish congregation will be allowed to build a new worship center in Woodcliff Lake under an agreement reached Tuesday, ending a years-long battle that the borough fought with both the religious group and the federal government. Under a pair of the agreements announced Tuesday, the feds and Valley Chabad are both dropping lawsuits against the borough for denying zoning approvals for the property at Werimus Road and Woodcliff Avenue. Fate intervened this weekend when an emergency room doctor revived a drowning 3-year-old boy pulled from a hotel pool near the New Jersey/New York border. Police who responded within a minute to the call of an unresponsive child at the Courtyard by Marriott on Chestnut Ridge Road in Montvale at 4:20 p.m. Saturday found Dr. John Blundell of Buffalo reviving the New York City boy, Police Chief Joseph Sanfilippo said. Firefighters Douse Westwood Blaze
Firefighters doused a quick-moving blaze that severely damaged a Westwood home Thursday morning. The fire broke out on the second floor of the Hillside Avenue home around 5:15 a.m. and blew through the attic. A candle left burning overnight may have been to blame, responders said. A recently-sold Westwood house that was undergoing renovations went up in flames overnight, injuring seven Hillsdale firefighters. The firefighters were checked out for what turned out to be minor injuries at nearby Pascack Valley Medical Center (HUMC) after a porch roof collapsed on them in the 5:30 a.m. Oakland Avenue blaze on Wednesday.
