Feds Cite Litchfield County Company For 48 Safety, Health Violations After Employee’s Death
A Connecticut company has been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for 48 safety violations after an employee was electrocuted and died. The incident took place in Litchfield County at PM Engineered Solutions Inc. when an employee of the metal fabrication company was electrocuted in July while repairing a portable water heater in Watertown. An inspection by OSHA found that the company lacked safeguards to protect employees against electrocution, as well as mechanical, chemical, fall, and other electrical hazards, said the US Department of Labor. The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit is investigating an apparent accidental death at a Western Massachusetts resort. According to Andrew McKeever, of the Berkshires District Attorney's Office, detectives responded to the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock on Tuesday, Jan. 4, following a snow groomer and a snowmobile collision. Students witnessed a contract worker falling over 30 feet from an area just below the roof of their high school, authorities and multiple news outlets reported on Tuesday. The worker fell approximately 30 to 40 feet from the area between the ceiling and roof into the auditorium of Valley High School in the New Kensington-Arnold School District just after 10:30 a.m., according to emergency dispatchers and officials called to the scene. A worker at an abandoned New Jersey psychiatric hospital fell to his death on Wednesday, authorities said. Cristian Velez-Hurtado, 33, of Paterson had been working on the roof of Marlboro State Hospital on Springs Road (Monmouth County location) when he fell inside the building around 9:30 a.m., NJSP Sgt. A 21-year-old woman is facing charges after allegedly assaulting a Metro-North conductor with a pumpkin after being asked for a ticket, the Westchester County District Attorney announced. A coroner was called to Norfolk Southern's railyard in Cumberland County after a man fell to his death. Emergency Dispatch Services sent a coroner to the fatal scene at the Enola Yard located at 218 North Enola Road on Wednesday shortly before 5 p.m. The man was identified as, Stuart Riggs, 58, of Mechanicsburg, according to the Cumberland County coroner. An EMT who was injured in a fall while working at Mountain Creek reportedly settled a lawsuit against the resort for $1.75 million. Frank Villecco was working for Atlantic Health, which provided emergency medical services to the Vernon Township resort, when he slipped on water while bringing an injured skier into a medical room in March 2013, New Jersey Law Journal reported.
