John, the son of John Joseph and Mary (Gurrall) Hvisch, was born in Yonkers on April 19, 1925. He was a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corp., enlisting in 1943 at the age of 17, and was a part of the Pacific campaign and fought in the grueling battle of Okinawa.
