Dozens of people have been displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out at an apartment complex in Westchester on Saturday. The blaze at 137 Hawthorne Ave. in Yonkers, a four-story building, began around 2:45 p.m. with first-arriving fire units being met by a large volume of fire from a first-floor apartment, said Daniel P. Fire Officer Admits To Role At Bar Fight Caught On Video In Westchester
A fire lieutenant who was caught on camera knocking out a patron during a bar fight in Westchester has admitted to his role in the violent incident. Yonkers Fire Lt. Christopher Mitchell pleaded guilty to a count of disorderly conduct last month and has been sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge. Mitchell has already paid $15,000 in restitution to one of his victims for medical expenses, and he’s been ordered to pay an additional $19,757.24 by Oct. 25 next year. A seemingly innocuous one-car crash into a Westchester building led to the discovery of a marijuana grow house, police said. Members of the Yonkers Police Department were dispatched to a two-family home on Shonnard Place shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, where there was a report of a driver who had struck the building. Two Families Displaced In Blaze Battled By 45 Firefighters In Westchester
Two families were displaced on late Thursday night after a fire broke out in the upper floors of a multi-family home in Yonkers. Crews from the Yonkers Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Hawthorne Avenue shortly before 9:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, Assistant Chief Thomas Fitzpatrick said. More than a dozen people were left out in the cold over the weekend as a fire forced them to leave their homes.
