Yorktown Police Charge 26-Year-Old Woman In Sears Shoplifting Incident YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested a 26-year-old Peekskill woman accused of stealing from Sears in the Jefferson Valley Mall. The arrest stemmed from a shoplifting incident at the store that was reported to police on Oct. 12, 2015, according to officials. The incident involved $1,253 worth of clothing that was stolen by two female subjects who had left the store, police report. Putnam Sheriff's Officers Arrest Wappingers Falls Woman In Jewelry Theft CARMEL, N.Y. -- Putnam County Sheriff’s officers have arrested a 33-year-old Dutchess County woman on a charge of grand larceny. A Carmel woman reported jewelry had been stolen from her residence on Friday, Jan. 8, officials report. The case was turned over to the Sheriff’s Department Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), according to police. Members of BCI conducted an investigation, and identified Erica Turner of Wappingers Falls as a suspect, police report. Somers Man Charged With DWI In Yorktown YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- Yorktown police have arrested Kenneth Covert, a 51-year-old Somers man, for driving while intoxicated following a single vehicle crash on Granite Springs Road. Police were dispatched to the crash site at approximately 11:51 p.m. Monday, officials report. Westport Police Arrest Driver Who Refused To Move Oil Truck From Road WESTPORT, Conn. -- Westport police arrested a 50-year-old oil truck driver last week after they said his vehicle was hindering the flow of traffic along a local roadway. The driver, identified as Allen Pearson of Stamford, was blocking traffic with his truck on Railroad Place while pumping oil on Friday, Feb, 19, at about noon, according to police. Pearson has been warned in the past not to block the roadway, according to police. Five Darien High School Students Named Presidential Scholar Candidates DARIEN, Conn. -- Five Darien High School seniors have been selected as candidates for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. The students, Sarishka Desai, Christopher Drake, James Garijo-Garde, Katie Tsui and Chloe Zhou, were chosen based on a criteria of broad academic achievement and their scores on the SAT or ACT. The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize some of the Nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Up to 141 students are named as recipients of the honor each year.
