Firefighters Rescue Dogs From Burning Western Mass Home Firefighters in Berkshire County rushed into a burning home Monday morning, Sept. 18, to rescue two dogs who were trapped inside, authorities said. Fire Crews were called to 365 West Housatonic St. in Pittsfield just before 8:30 a.m. after multiple people called 911 to report smoke pouring from the home, the Pittsfield Department said. Mass Officer Narrowly Avoids Falling Tree That Crushes His Cruiser An officer on patrol Saturday, Sept. 16, in Norfolk County said he just barely escaped a large tree that fell and crushed his police cruiser, authorities said. The officer was outside his patrol car responding to a call of low-hanging wires near the intersection of South Main Street and River Road in Cohasset when he heard a loud snap nearby and watched as a giant tree fell toward him. Don't Die In Massachusetts. It Costs Too Much If you plan to die, do it somewhere outside of Massachusetts. According to a new study, the Bay State is one of the nation's most expensive places to perish. Forbes recently tallied all the financial costs of losing a loved one. That included end-of-life care and funeral expenses. What they found is that not only is the cost of living rising, but so is the price of dying. Alaska was the priciest place to die, with it costing more than $33,000 on average. That's $24,400 for end-of-life care and an average funeral price tag of $9,300, according to the Forbes study. James Driscoll won the seven-figure sum playing the "Emeralds 50X" instant win game. He picked up his prize on Wednesday, Sept. 13, with his wife Peggy.
