A Long Island man set fire to several cars in a parking lot early Sunday, May 10, then was also tied to three prior arson incidents after his arrest, police said.
Elder Lopez Avalos, 27, was detained shortly after the cars were found on fire at Municipal Parking Field 1 near 32 Smith Street in Freeport, the Nassau County Police Department said.

Peter Weeks, 47, was found asleep in his vehicle in the middle of Baycrest Avenue in East Quogue around 6:30 a.m. Sunday, the Southampton Town Police Department said.

Charmaine Skeen, of Coney Island, was spotted inside a vehicle by a victim in Valley Stream around 1:30 a.m. Friday, May 8, the Nassau County Police Department said.
The victim’s vehicle was parked on Munro Boulevard, and she called police when she spotted Skeen inside, authorities said.
