Harrison Sees Slight Increase In 2014 Proposed Budget HARRISON, N.Y. -- Harrison's proposed budget for 2014 has grown due to a decrease in assessment values and increases in insurance premiums. The budget proposed in November called for a tax rate increase of 3.854 percent, and now stands at 4.13 percent. Harrison will remain under the state tax levy cap of 1.66 percent, according to Comptroller Maureen MacKenzie. The main reason for the increase was due to the drop in Harrison's assessed valuation, which fell from $136,239,708 to $135,603,693, a decrease of $693,015, according to MacKenzie. Port Chester Schools Struggle With Growing Enrollment PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Rising enrollment in Port Chester schools has officials worried about more students coming into the district, and looking for ways to prevent overcrowding in the classroom. School enrollment has risen by 619 students, or 16 percent, since 2007. To help slow the expansion, members of the Board of Education have drafted a resolution urging officials from the villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook to discourage any additional residential development that would bring more students to the district. "It's not just our elementary schools that are busting at the seams, which…

Rye Looks To Work With County On Flooding From Airport RYE, N.Y. -- In their efforts to control flooding in Rye, city officials are looking towards the airport and working with officials from the county on possible solutions. "One of the central themes of our flood mitigation plan has been the airport. Since 2003 in particular, we've seen higher levels of runoff from the airport," said Mayor Doug French. He said that part of the problem has been that the two catch basins at the airport haven't held as much water as it was envisioned they would. "In 2014 they've got funding and they're starting design plans to increase the capacity of the two …
