Rye Town Makes Progress On Park Management Outsourcing RYE, N.Y. -- The Town of Rye is making steps toward exploring a potential public-private partnership to manage operations at Rye Town Park. The park is now managed by the Rye Town Park Commission, which is made of officials from the Town of Rye, the City of Rye, and the villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester. The commission's capital committee had put out a request for proposals earlier this year to see if there was any interest in a private organization, such as a non-profit or a corporation, coming in and taking over the management, similar to the deal the county has made with Rye Playlan…

Shutdown Has Little Impact On Westchester In Day 1 WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- While Congress continues to fight over spending plans in Washington, the shutdown of the federal government had minimal impact on Westchester County services and residents in its first day on Tuesday. "Fortunately, there is no immediate effect on the county," said Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino. "From a cash flow standpoint, the county has the money to pay its bills. Federal funds for food stamps and other social services for October are already in place. Our federal transportation money is also in place. County government is up, running and fully open…

At a recent Board of Education meeting, one resident said that he routinely counts eight to 10 cars with Connecticut license plates picking up kids after school at Thomas A. Edison …

Lowey: Defunding Obamacare Would Hurt Port Chester Seniors PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-Westchester) on Wednesday criticized Republicans who are trying to defund the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare. "In all my years of Congress, I have never seen a time like this," Lowey said at the Senior Community Center in Port Chester. The Republicans' refusal to fund the government unless the act is cut would reduce Medicare benefits for seniors and increase health costs, Lowey said.
