Occupy Darien Protests Fall on Deaf Ears Occupy Darien Protests Fall on Deaf Ears Occupy Darien Protests Fall on Deaf Ears
Occupy Darien Protests Fall on Deaf Ears DARIEN, Conn. – If you walked past the Occupy Darien protesters at Tilley Pond Park on Wednesday or Thursday, you probably would have thought it was a small group of friends gathered for coffee and conversation. The demonstration drew very small numbers, especially given the buildup it received in the local media and the online discussions it sparked. One of the most prevalent criticisms across the country of the Occupy Wall Street movement has been that it lacks a clear goal and set of ideals. The fiercest debate of the two-day demonstration in Darien took place between protesters themselve…

Occupy Darien Wants More Protesters on Day 2 DARIEN, Conn. – Occupy Darien organizer Margaret Rague said the Darien Police stopping a train Wednesday morning was part of what kept people away from the first day of the demonstration. “I think it had a chilling effect,” Rague said of the search for a double-homicide suspect that was unrelated to the protest. She said she doubted there was even a murderer on the train and accused police of pulling their guns on innocent people. “It was a cock-and-bull story. Did they think these people were hiding a murderer in their pocket? It was a gross violation of the rights of the people on the tra…

It’s important to protest in places like Darien, which is really th…
