Westport 7th-Grader Wins Speed-Dribbling Crown Westport seventh-grader Jared Vishno won the speed-dribbling championship in the Fairfield County Basketball League's individual skills competition Saturday in Westport. The event was part of the season-ending weekend for the league, and skills competitions were held in speed dribbling, free throw shooting and 1-on-1 play. UConn Grid Coach To Speak at Benefit Breakfast UConn football coach Paul Pasqualoni will be guest speaker when the Fairfield County Sports Commission holds its fourth annual celebrity breakfast. The fundraiser will take place Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 a.m. at the Continental Manor in Norwalk.  Pasqualoni became the 28th head football coach at UConn on Jan. 14. A Cheshire native, Pasqualoni has coached high school, college and NFL athletes. He was also a head coach for 14 years at the D-1 collegiate level, primarily at Syracuse University. Fairfield 8th-Grade Girls Fall in Title Game The Fairfield PAL eighth-grade girls basketball team had won three games by four points heading into Sunday's championship game of the B Division of the Fairfield County Basketball League. Coming down to the final two minutes Sunday against Bridgeport Trumbull Gardens, Fairfield found itself in another tight one. Only this time, the girls couldn't pull it out. Bridgeport defeated Fairfield, 50-48, in a thrilling championship game at Danbury High School. Westport 6th-Grader Captures 1-on-1 Title Westport sixth-grader Ben Casparius won the 1-on-1 competition in the individual skills competition for Fairfield County Basketball League players. Casparius won the event Saturday at Darien High School. The league hosted competitions in 1-on-1 play, speed dribbling and free throw shooting as part of its season-ending championship weekend. Stamford 8th-Graders Capture Basketball Crown After winning back-to-back regular season championships as 6th- and 7th-graders, the Stamford Youth Basketball 8th-grade Huskies added a postseason championship to their trophy case with a heart-stopping 57-56 overtime win over Newtown on Sunday in the championship game of the Fairfield County Basketball League A East Division. Norwalk Biddy Team Gets Hot in Title Run Postseason tournaments are perfect for teams such as the Norwalk Biddy League seventh-graders. After winning just two games during the regular season, the team went 3-0 in the Fairfield County Basketball League “C” Division to win the title Saturday at Greens Farms Academy. Norwalk defeated the Fairfield PAL Mustangs, 46-27, behind 26 points from Joey Cantey. Ralph Mangiat added 16 for Norwalk and Colby Scovel scored nine.
