UConn AD Could Have Avoided This Mess UConn AD Could Have Avoided This Mess UConn AD Could Have Avoided This Mess
UConn AD Could Have Avoided This Mess I'm getting a kick out of the sanctimonious sports writers who are attacking Greenwich businessman Robert Burton for writing a scathing letter to UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway about not being part of the process in the search for a new football coach. Burton has been described as a petulant child, a bully, classless and an egomaniac. And that was just one writer. It's as if Burton's character has been placed on a kicking tee, and every sports writer in America is lined up and ready to take a whack at him. Here's a news flash for writers, Hathaway and anybody else quick to kick Burto…
Host Family Easily Embraces Basketball Star Host Family Easily Embraces Basketball Star Host Family Easily Embraces Basketball Star
Host Family Easily Embraces Basketball Star Moments after Greens Farms Academy defeated Brunswick School during a boys basketball game last month, Sean Obi ran to the bleachers to find Steve and Bobbi Eggers. Their son, Hunter, Sean's teammate, had to pull Obi back to the court to shake hands with the opponents. It wasn't malicious or contrived, but for Obi, an unplanned expression toward the Greenwich couple with whom he lives. As easily as Obi, a native of Nigeria, has made the transition to the United States, the Eggers and their children have been quick to assimilate Sean into their family. "Sean has fit right in,'' Steve says. "H…

UConn Booster's Letter Sparks Debate A Greenwich businessman's decision to seek the return of a $3 million donation to the University of Connecticut football team has triggered debate over how much influence boosters should have in college sports programs. Robert Burton, the chief executive officer of Burton Capital Management, wants the money returned and his name removed from the school's football complex. Burton is angry about the hiring of Paul Pasqualoni as the team's coach to replace Randy Edsall. In a scathing letter to athletic director Jeff Hathaway, Burton said he wanted to be involved in the hiring process of a new …

Nigerian Student Makes Swift Transition Nigerian Student Makes Swift Transition Nigerian Student Makes Swift Transition
Nigerian Student Makes Swift Transition Second of three parts: It should have taken Sean Obi some time to get acclimated to his new surroundings at Greens Farms Academy when he arrived from Nigeria last summer as a 15-year-old. But the transition has been seamless. The school community accepted him with open arms, and he has just been just as quick to embrace it. "There aren't too many 6-9 kids in the school,'' says basketball teammate Hunter Eggers, whose family is hosting Sean during his stay in the United States. "You walk by the lower school, and kids are always hugging him. Somebody said he doesn't go two feet without gettin…

Weston's Welsh Hurt in Win Over New Fairfield The joy of a convincing 48-32 win by Weston High School's girls basketball team over a solid New Fairfield squad was tempered Tuesday night by a knee injury to guard Christina Welsh early in the fourth quarter. Welsh, a senior point guard, went down in a collision in the lane while defending a New Fairfield player. She is expected to have an MRI on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury. If Welsh misses a significant amount of time, it could be a devastating blow for the Trojans, who improved to 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the South-West Conference. Welsh, an all-league player a year a…
